SRI AMAN: A group Kumpulan Cicit Dayang Kabong (CCDK) from Daro emerged as champion of the Juh Bermukun 2018 event held at the Pentas Utama, Perkarangan RTM Sri Aman. The victory won them the RM1,000 cash prize and trophy. In second spot was the Kumpulan Sri Simanggang while in third was Kumpulan Hujan Panas from Spaoh.
They respectively took home RM600 and RM400 with trophy too. According to RTM Sri Aman Manager Noraini Ibrahim, the Juh Bermukun Contest was held to further boost the art and culture of ’bergendang and bermukun’ in order for them to survive the passage of time and at the same time for RTM to reach out to the masses and listeners.
’Bermukun’ is an integral part of the Sarawak Malay culture which is also accompanied by the presentation of ’gendang’ and viola that both add to the ’bermukun’ music and merriment that is also at times accompanied by exchange of poems and poetry. This time the Juh Bermukun 2018 saw the participation of the younger generation in the person of Shahidah Laila, 26, that forms the second layer of presenters for the future events.
She was part of the CCDK group. Starting to accompany her mother Jubaidah Mohamad at the age of five during bermukun presentations, she started to be active in the ’bergendang’ act when she turned 14 and since then has been active in the act up till now.
The Juh Bermukun 2018 programme was broadcast live for an hour on RASAfm at 8.10pm and later on broadcast live at 10.10pm till 12.30am non-stop on SARAWAKFm radio channel. During the event, guests were entertained by ‘Flashmob’ presentation as well as Iban and Bidayuh traditional dances. There were also presentations of Gendang Pampat by the Gendang Pampat Bujang Sigat Group. Present at the event were RTM Sri Aman Manager Noraini Ibrahim, Divisional Information Department Officer of Sri Aman and Betong Roszilawati Nor Aziz as well as local community leaders.
