KOTA PADAWAN: Recently, 50 enthusiastic participants joined the Traditional Food Workshop and Competition hosted by Kelab Belia Proaktif, an event that highlighted the cultural richness and culinary traditions of Sarawak.
The event was inaugurated by Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang. The participants were divided into 11 teams, each striving to display their skills in preparing traditional Sarawak dishes such as ‘manuk pansuh’ and ‘lemang’.
Lo commended the event, emphasizing its significance in preserving cultural heritage and passing it down to younger generations.
“I am impressed by the dedication and skill exhibited by the participants, and I commend Kelab Belia Proaktif for their efforts in organizing such a meaningful celebration.
“Not only does this promote our traditional cuisine, but it also strengthens community bonds,” he remarked.
Shenton Tan, the President of Kelab Belia Proaktif, expressed his delight at the turnout and the enthusiasm shown by all participants.
“This event was a celebration of our heritage, as well as an opportunity to bring people together in a unique setting to learn, compete, and appreciate the beauty of our culture and natural surroundings,” he explained.
The event, held in conjunction with Merdeka Glamping by Borneo Glamping, aimed to inspire youth to engage in outdoor activities and forge a deeper connection with their cultural roots.
Participants, ranging from seasoned cooks to novices, had the chance to learn from one another and immerse themselves in Sarawak’s culinary traditions.
