KUCHING: Seven guests from multiple industries joined a two-hour return hydrogen bus tour organised by Spativate in partnership with Sarawak Metro Berhad (Sarawak Metro) and Sarawak Economic Development Berhad (SEDC) on April 10.

The tour on the first Southeast Asia hydrogen bus was held in conjunction with World Earth Day 2021.

“Conventionally, World Earth Day is being celebrated with tree planting, spring cleaning and awareness talks in schools but we wanted something different, elevating the experiences and beyond common verbal sharing on sustainability.

“So, we decided on the experience of hydrogen bus tours and indirectly learning on Sarawak’s Hydrogen Agenda,” said Spativate founder Seph Haini in a statement.

She added that the bus tour was also a way for the guests to network around and exchange their insights on each other’s industries.

“Because World Earth Day happened in the month of Ramadan, we organised the programme a couple of weeks in advance.”

Meanwhile, Sarawak Metro media manager Letitia Samuel stated that the hydrogen had resumed its service in early March after some bus drivers had a close contact with a positive Covid-19 third party contractor.

“It was unavoidable for every party. However, Sarawak Metro took the initiative to suspend the operations for two weeks to sanitised and disinfect our buses. Our operations are back to normal now since early March.

“For this tour, we took extreme measures by reducing the passenger capacity to half in order to provide sufficient space for social distancing. We also strictly adhered to all the standard operating procedures (SOPs) given.

“Furthermore, this strategic collaboration publicised our hydrogen bus services.”

Letitia hoped local organisations would now be aware of these buses’ potentials as the official transportation for their future corporate programmes.
