KUCHING: Chinese New Year celebration continues to be an effective platform for strengthening ties for multiracial Sarawakians.
Last Saturday night, Sarawak Islamic Information Centre (SIIC), together with the Malaysian Chinese Muslim Association (Macma) Sarawak branch, Chinese Welfare Association (Perkthis) Sarawak, CATS FM Sarawak and Ming De Chinese Cultural Education Centre, hosted its very own Chinese New Year for the various faith-based and Chinese-based organisations in the city.
Among the notable figures at the CNY gathering were SIIC president Datu Misnu Taha, SIIC CEO Zabariah Matali, CATS FM CEO Mohammad Iskandar Nawawi, Ming De Chinese Cultural Education Centre chairman Lui Siew Peng, Perkthis chairman Mortadha Lau Abdullah, and Macma Sarawak vice-chairman Mohd Ammar Choo Abdullah.
Misnu, in his speech, said the ability of Sarawakians of all races and religions to celebrate festivals together had made Kuching City the City of Unity.
“This is the beauty of Sarawak, we respect each other no matter what our races and religions are,” Misnu said.
The guests were happily entertained by the CATS FM Rangers and special performances from Ming De Chinese Cultural Education Centre.
The celebration concluded with a souvenir presentation and a group photo.
