LUNDU: Centre for Technology Excellence Sarawak or CENTEXS Lundu has made history in the technical education sector by introducing the Aerospace Academy, an innovative programme poised to serve as a launchpad for Sarawak’s youth to pursue their dreams in the aerospace industry.
Lundu Campus head Dr Nor Ashikin Abdul Rahman said the academy offers five pioneering courses tailored to meet current industry demands.
Nor Ashikin stated these include the Certificate in Aerospace Sheet Metal, Certificate in Aerospace Machining Operations, Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Aeroplane Turbine), Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Helicopter Turbine), and Certificate in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Avionics).
“We are not just introducing programmes with impressive titles; these courses truly offer extraordinary opportunities for Sarawak’s youth to engage in the aerospace industry, from aircraft maintenance to satellite and spacecraft technology,” she told Sarawak Tribune and Suara Sarawak here, Thursday (Nov 21).
She added that the launch of the Aerospace Academy in October 2024 received an overwhelming response, with over 200 applications submitted within a week. However, only 100 students were selected for the first intake to maintain the quality of instruction.
“We do not want to just accept anyone. Students must be prepared physically, mentally, and possess basic skills such as proficiency in English and Mathematics.
“This is crucial because the industry demands high-level skills, especially for those aspiring to work internationally.”
Nor Ashikin is also optimistic that graduates of the Aerospace Academy will be highly sought after, not only in Sarawak but also on the international stage.
“We see tremendous job opportunities, particularly in the Middle East and with global airlines.
“Additionally, the state government’s initiative to establish a Sarawak airline will open more doors for the younger generation.”
She also mentioned that although still in its early stages, CENTEXS Lundu has already attracted students from across Sarawak, including remote areas such as Miri and Long Semadoh.
With a strong focus on producing successful graduates, Nor Ashikin is confident that the academy will significantly impact Sarawak’s human capital development.
“We will ensure that every graduate succeeds and becomes an inspiration for future generations.
“Their success is proof that this programme can transform the future of Sarawak’s youth.”
Through this initiative, CENTEXS Lundu has once again demonstrated its commitment to offering relevant, high-impact programmes aimed at advancing Sarawak’s progress in technology and aerospace.
