KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah has congratulated the Trinity ElderCare Centre (TEC) for providing quality care to elders under their care.

“At TEC, the elders are empowered to be productive, healthy, and positive. They enjoy quality of life in a loving and safe environment,” said the Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister.

TEC Is an important support system for working adults who want their parents to be cared for and loved while enjoying the company of their peers with planned and scheduled activities that will benefit them health-wise physically, emotionally, and spiritually, Fatimah described.

“At the end of the day the working adults can bring their parents back home to be with the family where they belong,” she said in a statement in conjunction with her visit to TEC, an entity under the Trinity Methodist Church today.

The objective of her visit was to survey compliance with Covid-19 prevention guidelines in the operation of elderly care centres, including compliance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) by senior citizens and staff members as well as hygiene maintenance of the premises and equipment.

She expressed satisfaction with TEC’s high level of compliance with the SOPs.

“In the process of monitoring, we observe the role of the management in taking preventive and control measures during operation with the basic principles of preventing and controlling Covid-19 infection,” she said.

Fatimah said senior citizens aged 60 and above were a high-risk group prone to complications and deaths caused by Covid-19 infections, due to the age factor and also chronic diseases.

She added that the Covid-19 incidence rate per 100,000 population in Malaysia was the highest for the age group of 55 to 59 years and also those aged 60 to 64 years.

“There are 44 care centres registered under the Sarawak Social Welfare Department (JKMS). Of these, 32 care centres have been monitored by JKMS,” she said.

Of the 44 care centres, ten provide care for senior citizens (seven have been monitored by JKMS); nine provide care for people with disabilities (seven have been monitored by JKMS) and 25 provide care for children (18 have been monitored by JKMS).
