KUCHING: The Perlis Nakawan Ultra Run-cation themed ‘The Thrill of Northern Trails’ seeks to recover and redevelop Perlis’ sports tourism, advancing the local economy in neighbouring areas, and popularising attractive places in Perlis.
The marathon calls on runners from Sarawak, Sabah, Brunei and West Kalimantan to challenge themselves to take on the event organised by MEP Ventures and Denai Putra Runners Club which will be held on Sept 9 and 10.
Officiating at the ceremony is Raja Muda Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail with his wife Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil accompanying him.
The ultra running event, organised by MEP Ventures and Denai Putra Runners Club/Kelab Pelari Denai Putra, supported by the Perlis state government and Tourism Malaysia is targeting 800 participants.
“I believe Perlis Nakawan Ultra comes very timely after our extended periods of lockdown, and we are happy to be responding to the government’s call to increase collaborations between East and West Malaysia to ensure the success of events such as these.
“We invite runners to challenge and immerse themselves in the beauty of the Perlis National Park, to experience different cultures and learn about the local communities residing there,” said Perlis Nakawan Ultra organiser Ku Hasrin.
According to the chief executive officer of Smart Leisure and Travels Datuk Nellsen Young, the run is sure to appeal to East Malaysians who are looking to up their game and embrace new challenges, and have a natural zest for adventure and food.
“For Sarawakian and Sabahan runners itching to get back on track with their running, this run-centric vacation to Perlis National Park is a must-add itinerary to their list,” he added
According to a press release issued today, the trail will take runners along the longest continuous limestone range, namely the Nakawan range in Malaysia stretching 38km through Perlis National Park.
The run is also said to include the Nakawan Feast Fiesta and Nakawan Jungle Fest Dinner for 50km runners with food prepared by villagers at the Nakawan Ultra Camp Site.
The run will be introducing two new categories to the existing Ultra run categories which are the Super Senior (aged 50and above) and Super Junior category (aged 12 to 17).
