SIBU: Sarawak is set for a tough start in the Badminton event for the upcoming 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA), as it faces defending champion Selangor in the group stage starting tomorrow (Aug 17) at the Sibu Indoor Stadium.

Following the grouping draw held today, Sarawak has been placed in Group A alongside Selangor and Sabah.

Sarawak will kick off its campaign at 4 pm tomorrow (Aug 17), taking on Sabah with the hope of starting strong.

The team will then face a crucial showdown against Selangor on August 18 at 10 am, as both teams battle for a spot in the next stage.

Penang, last year’s runner-up, finds itself in Group D, where it will compete against Johor and Perlis for one of the top two positions.

Meanwhile, last year’s third-place team, Wilayah Persekutuan, will take on Kelantan and Negeri Sembilan in the group stages.

Group C features last year’s fourth-place finisher, Malacca, alongside Perak and Pahang.

Other matches for tomorrow include Selangor against Sabah, Wilayah Persekutuan against Negeri Sembilan, Malacca versus Pahang, and Penang taking on Perlis.

The second round of matches will be held at 4 pm, featuring Kelantan against Negeri Sembilan, Perak versus Pahang, and Johor going head-to-head with Perlis.
