MIRI: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg will lead the Sarawak Merdeka Ride convoy on the 168.3-km long Miri-Bintulu route tomorrow (June 10).
The convoy will involve a total of 268 participants on 56 four-wheel drive vehicles, 81 motorcycles and eight buses, motorhomes, ambulances and government vehicles.
Throughout the ride, the convoy will stop at several locations where Abang Johari and his entourage will take the opportunity to greet the local community to liven up the spirit of unity and patriotism in conjunction with this year’s historic celebration.
The celebration will begin with the launch of the 60 Years Digital Exhibition by the Premier before the convoy is then flagged off by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian at the Miri Indoor Stadium on Saturday morning.
From there, Abang Johari will lead the convoy to Pantai Bungai, Subis as the first stopping point before stopping at Kampung Nyalau, Bintulu.
Meanwhile, earlier today a full rehearsal that started at 9.18am and ended at 10am went smoothly at the stadium and State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki was present to review the final preparations.
Accompanying him were Deputy State Secretary (Operations) Datuk Hii Chang Kee, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Morshidi Fredrick, Miri Division Resident Jamalie Busri, MYSED Deputy Permanent Secretary Dolhadi Mazuki and Miri Division Deputy Resident Juan Ubit.
Residents of Miri will also have the opportunity to experience the excitement in conjunction with this year’s historic celebration through various side events at the stadium, including the Territorial Army and Health Exhibitions, the Sarawak X-Tive Programme as well as sales activities by local entrepreneurs.
The Miri divisional level Sarawak Merdeka 60th anniversary celebration which started on May 29 ends on Sunday (June 11).
