KUCHING: The public have been reminded to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 standard operating procedure (SOP) set by the authorities when celebrating Chap Goh Mei.
Kuching Chinese General Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCGCCI) secretary-general Datuk Jonathan Chai Voon Tok said with the recent surge of Covid-19 variants, the public should not take anything for granted.
“Even though we have achieved a high vaccination rate and will soon move into the endemic phase, we need to stay vigilant.
“We need to look after ourselves well so that we can celebrate many more Chinese new years with our loved ones,” he said in his Chap Goh Mei message on Monday (Feb 14).
“With the gradual relaxation of SOPs and the anticipation of the imminent reopening of our borders, some people might have the misconception that we have already overcome and won the battle against Covid-19.
“For the sake of our safety and health, we just have to tone down our celebration and live in the new normal,” he stressed.
