KUCHING: A single mother has received food supply and milk powder from charity body Hope Place.
Ekhfarizan Zorffari is the sole breadwinner of her family, supporting four children aged between two to 14, and her retired parents.
Working as a sales assistant selling perfume, she shared that her monthly income could barely cover expenses as it was below the minimum wage.
Having to work in shifts daily, she said that she was trying her best to take care and be there for her family, especially her children.
“My father is a retired security guard. To help us financially, my mother sells homemade ‘kuih’.
“During this month of Ramadhan, my family makes festive cookies to sell,” she said, when met by Hope Place in Matang here.
Ekhfarizan informed that her eldest, Afief, 14, holds a people with disabilities (PwD) card.
“Even though he is categorised as PwD, he attends a national school here in Matang and copes well in school.
“Afief is excellent in English and has a talent and keen interest in creating comic strips.
“He would draw all his comics, including speech bubbles and storylines.
“Aside from this, he is also a YouTuber who goes by the name ‘Hoody Redo’ in which he mainly talks about video games that he loves,” she said.
Despite the situation that she is in, Ekhfarizan expressed her gratitude to the Social Welfare Department for aiding her son by giving him RM150 monthly.
