Charity concert raises funds for dialysis centre

KUCHING: The Grand Riverine Ballroom was aglow last night (November 15) with the enchanting melodies of the ‘Reminiscence of Roses’ charity concert, drawing an audience of approximately 600 people.

Orchestrated by Lions Club of Kuching One Earth, the grand musical affair not only showcased exceptional musical talent but also raised funds for the Divine Will Society Dialysis Centre in Kota Sentosa here.

The primary focus of the charity concert was to bolster the centre’s mission of providing essential dialysis services, particularly to individuals in the B40 income group.

Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, represented by  Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Datuk Wee Hong Seng,commended The Lions Club of Kuching One Earth for spearheading this initiative. 

“The non-profit organisation aims to offer affordable dialysis treatment, addressing the pressing need for 60 new dialysis machines in Sarawak to adequately serve the current 4,000 patients in the B40 community.

“I hope others will be inspired and motivated to do likewise to offer and give more love and compassion in other similar endeavour,” he said.

Billed as Kuching’s biggest musical production to date, the concert featured over 80 performers, including 21 virtuosos from Singapore’s Keat Hong Chinese Orchestra.

Set against the backdrop of ‘old Shanghai’, the evening unfolded with a mesmerising tapestry of musical brilliance, featuring a star-studded line-up including soprano Wendy Wong, and guest singers Fabian Wee, Boon How Jong, Lucan Yong and AmelynBong.

The concert also featured local talents, including pianist Marvin Jong, who also served as the music producer, violinist Jonathan Ng, bassist Jackson Lim and saxophonist Bong Foo Yong.

Dancers from DanceHolic Studio, under coach Carol Sim, and The Dance Academy Kuching added a visual spectacle to the musical extravaganza.

Also present were Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap,Lions Club of Kuching One Earth president Joseph Tang, Lions Clubs International District 308-A2 governor Kapitan Ronny Hiew and Divine Will Society Kuching chairman Anthony Bong.
