KUCHING: Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah praised the Kuching Heng Hua Seng Ing Tong Society for their commendable initiatives in aiding the underprivileged community, regardless of their race or religion.
The Minister of Women, Early Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development highlighted the beauty of Sarawak’s essence, which encompasses both a committed government and caring non-governmental organisations (NGOs).
She pointed out that the association’s endeavours have a long history of aiding those in need, and the recipients come from various ethnic backgrounds.
“We are indeed very fortunate to live in this land of hornbills. We have a government that is very committed to developing the state to make sure the people prosper and everybody will be able to live in peaceful harmony in Sarawak.
“We are also very fortunate to have many NGOs to fill in the gap and make sure those who are not receiving assistance from the Social Welfare Department (JKM) will still receive their assistance.
“When we extend help to others, we do not consider their race or religion. We are simply performing a good deed,” she said.
She said this during the Charity Goodies Giveaway 2023 at Ah Ma Hu Temple here yesterday (Aug 18).
Jointly organised with Kuching JKM, the event was held in conjunction with the NGO’s 61st anniversary celebration.
During the event, a total of 100 recipients received aid in the form of food items and an angpao amounting to RM50 each.
Fatimah asserted that the organising committee wants to give away the goodies out of their kind hearts.
“And I am here to witness the kindheartedness of the association in helping the needy.
“This is the beauty of Sarawak. A government that cares. NGOs that care,” she said.
