KUCHING: In celebration of its 6th anniversary, the Kuching Love Book Association held their ‘Save Our FOREST Charity Run 2024’ today (Oct 22), attracting over 1,100 participants.

The event aimed to raise awareness about forest preservation as they are habitats for abundant wildlife and a blessing of nature.

“We must recognize the importance of forests and take proper measures to tackle the issues of deforestation and preserve the forests,” stated the association in a press release issued today (Oct 22).

According to the press statement, they raised as much as RM5,000 each through fundraisers for the ‘Kuching Life Care Society’ and the ‘Sarawak Society for the Deaf’.

The event also included the participation of 40 sponsored children from The Salvation Army, with Joseph emerging as the winner in the 5KM category.

Moreover, 50 lucky draw prizes, valued at over RM20,000, were distributed, with the grand prize being a motorbike sponsored by Tay Motors.

“Participants were thrilled with the exciting prizes, which included hotel room vouchers, folding bikes, and various tech gadgets,” the statement added.

Additionally, the top ten winners in the Men’s and Women’s Open categories received prizes totalling RM11,000.

A notable highlight was witnessing 10-year-old Sheryl, a top runner from Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (SJK) Chung Hua No 5, secure a 10th place finish in the 10KM category.

“Her exceptional performance earned her recognition as Sarawak’s leading primary school runner,” the statement highlighted.

Notable attendees included Tourism Minister of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, MYSED deputy permanent secretary Dolhadi Mazuki, and Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng, who were invited to grace the 3KM, 5KM, and 10KM runs this morning.
