KUCHING: The third Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) Technical and Vocational and Education and Training (TVET) conference serves as an ideal platform for speakers and delegates to connect and network, share best practices in TVET talent development, and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Chairman of Sarawak Skills Development Centre Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr Abdul Aziz Husain stated that this would also facilitate TVET’s role in fostering sustainable development initiatives for the betterment of humankind.

“Around the world, TVET with its orientation towards the world of work, has played an ever-increasing role in addressing the skills mismatch.

“It is therefore timely that we take stock of the current standing of TVET and chart the way forward in a world where creativity and innovation have become essential ingredients in the ongoing quest for each nation to hone its competitive edge, especially when we are facing the advancement of exponential technologies,” he said.

Abdul Aziz said this in his speech ahead of the officiating ceremony of the conference at Pullman Hotel here yesterday (March 8).

He added that Sarawak Skills has been working closely with the state government and various industry sectors to advance the noble cause of talent development.

“Our members’ numerous contribution to Sarawak Skills’s multi-pronged approach to talent development has facilitated the transformation of Sarawak’s economic and digital landscape,” he said.

Through the conference, he hoped that it would enable the delegates to address TVET-related issues with “new eyes”, alongside taking a fresh look at the issues that matter and consider different perspectives.

“From here onwards, we can chart the way forward for TVET in its ongoing quest to drive innovation and talent development.

“In this respect, we look forward to more collaborations between the stakeholders in the BIMP-EAGA region to enhance further TVET’s role in shaping the current and future generation of the workforce,” he added.
