KUCHING: Samuel Goh Kim Hau did not expect to emerge as the winner of the World Tapas Competition Sarawak 2024.
The 31 years old chef from Bintulu stated it was the first time he participated in such competition, adding that the competition was very tough.
“I actually just wanted to give a try for this competition since I have never participated in one before.
“One main thing about this competition is that it focuses more towards sustainable food.
“For my dish (Ceviche Roll) I am using the sweet potatoes, white snapper and tigers’ milk,” he said.
He said this when interviewed by reporters after winning the World Tapas Competition Sarawak 2024, in conjunction with the Sustainable Food International Conference (SFIC) 2024 at Waterfront Hotel here yesterday (Aug 14).
“While I acknowledge there are other dishes that are better than mine, however I’m glad to see that the judges love what I did.
“I am just joining the competition to showcase what I can do, coupled with my four year experience in the culinary industry as well,” he added.
The award competition was officiated by Deputy Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Sebastian Ting.
Goh will represent Malaysia at the 8th Annual World Tapas Competition, scheduled to be held in Spain this coming November 10.
