Amidst the bustling Bukit Bintang district in Kuala Lumpur, fashion enthusiasts gathered for an evening of style and sophistication. As models strutted in bold hues and intricate designs, guests were immersed in a showcase of cultural inspiration and creative innovation.

A night of fashion extravaganza at MARISTAR

MARISTAR is the hottest fashion lounge that fuses food, fashion, and passion. With a location in the heart of Kuala Lumpur’s famous Bukit Bintang shopping district and an eating and entertainment concept from The Marini Group, it is the ideal spot for a great evening.

We arrived at this trendy, inviting place at the close of the 15-day Chinese New Year celebration, which was illuminated by orb lights hanging from the ceiling and bars.

The guest list was long, but we soon found our spot in the large space, which was furnished with comfy lounge sofas and stylish bar tables and chairs.

Guests arrived dressed in oriental style fashion and glamour evening wears, making their presence felt on the lower floor, congregating in the indoor lounge areas, with a baron in the middle floor for a large video wall that serves as a focal point for fashion.

Most of the guests seemed to be Malaysian fashionistas, and many from the fashion industry were present, exchanging gossips and networking, while I had to squeeze my way between a very long and brightly lit dragon and three lions performing.

A pretty deejay was spinning music to keep us grooving all night.

The Malaysian Official Designers’ Association (MODA) added heat to the event by bringing three Malaysian fashion brands: P’LO, KEY NG, and TANGOO. Good-looking models walked the runway around the lounge, giving us a close-up look at these brands’ fashion trends.

The collaboration elevated the allure of the event and provided us with an immersive experience into the world of Malaysian fashion.

TANGOO continues to resonate with artistic innovation and creativity with the exotic collection, which features bold patterns and vibrant hues that depict culture and eclecticism.

Moses Law, a Sibu native who founded TANGOO with his business partner, has some thoughts regarding the statement-making motifs and accessories they created.

“Our bag’s design primarily considers current fashion trends and the widespread fondness of mini bags among women. Mini bags are not only suitable for showcasing personal charm and style at evening events but also reflect a sense of freedom and convenience in everyday life.

“The dragon is a well-known auspicious symbol, representing supremacy, as well as auspiciousness, righteousness, prosperity, and strength. It is also a symbol of Chinese culture, representing the Chinese nation. If you are Chinese, you are familiar with this auspicious symbol.”

The dragon motif was spotted on a TANGOO shirt worn by Juhe, a Kuching male model who flew in as a guest to support the show.

TANGOO did showcased fun, colourful pieces from its Chinese New Year 2024 and Spring Blooms collections, which stood out boldly with traditional and Chinoiserie elements as well as eye-catching headgear.

For those with eyes for a different glamour style, the curated KEY NG collection reflected the brand’s commitment to timeless elegance in jackets.

Their menswear pieces were awesome, and I dare my guy friends to wear the bold red jacket and sheer over the pants. To get noticed, you must stand out. Blending in with the crowd is boring.

It was also a welcome change after 15 days of Gong Xi colours to see models parade through the audience in a range of blue and black colours.

P’LO, a brand by Nancy Jullock of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, showcased tight silhouettes on shapely models.

The P’LO collection was inspired by the Chinese Lunar New Year calendar, which ushers in the Year of the Dragon. The Dragon ranks fifth on the calendar and, if golden, represents wealth, prosperity, strength, and harvest. But this is the year of the Blue Dragon!

Blue represents the element of wood, which is most likely why different shades of blue were used in this body silhouette collection, alongside significant black for power and nobility.
