SIBU: Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng is hoping more youths will be attracted to join the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP).

In rendering his hope, he pointed out that the party which is the first established in the state in 1959 remains an attractive prospect.

It is now in its 65th year and is led by a new generation, he said, calling on youths to sign up to fight for Sarawak together.

He was speaking at the SUPP’s 65th anniversary celebration held at SUPP headquarters here, Tuesday (June 4).

Chieng, who is also deputy chairman of SUPP Bukit Assek branch said the party’s belief and philosophy of ‘Sarawak for Sarawakians’ attracted him to join especially after returning from university.

“We fight for Sarawak, this is the main belief of SUPP members,” he asserted.

About 300 members gathered at the event which was among others, attended by SUPP Dudong branch honorary adviser Datuk Dr Soon Choon Teck, SUPP Dudong branch chairman Wong Ching Yong, SUPP Bukit Assek branch chairman Datuk Chieng Buong Toon, SUPP Nangka branch chairman Benson Chua and SUPP Bawang Assan Community Development team leader, Kevin Lau.
