ISTANBUL: Rescue teams in Turkiye recovered three people, including a child, alive from the debris of a collapsed apartment building where they spent 296 hours since last week’s earthquakes, reported the German Press Agency (dpa).

Footage by state broadcaster TRT showed teams carrying a man and a woman out on a stretcher to a waiting ambulance. Next to them, medics were seen treating a child.

There was no further information about the survivors, and the report in state media about the rescue in Hatay province’s Antakya district could not be independently verified.

Ambulances were on stand-by for possible other rescues from the same building, TRT said.

More than 40,000 local and foreign personnel were continuing the rescue efforts across south-eastern Turkiye, disaster authority AFAD said on Friday.

The total number of people killed in Turkiye from the February 6 quakes climbed to 39,672 late Friday.

Several thousand more died in neighbouring Syria. – BERNAMA
