KUCHING: The grounds of Masjid Jamek Sarawak resonated with the melodious voices of children, marking the festival of Maal Hijrah 1446H/2024 (FMH 1446H/2024) in a unique way.
Head of the Education Division at the Sarawak State Mosque Trust Board (LAKMNS) Dayang Siti Aishah Mohd Atei said the Bilal Junior Children’s Azan Competition for kids under 12 aimed to cultivate the talents of young individuals.
She said the event not only celebrated religious significance, but also became a nurturing ground for budding young talents in related areas.
“Through these efforts, we provide exposure to children, especially those under 12, encouraging them to be brave in trying new things and taking steps forward.
“In addition to providing experience, we also aim to uncover their potential for further development, for their own benefit,” Dayang Siti Aishah told New Sarawak Tribune.
Accompanied by proud parents and guardians, ten participants competed in two categories namely Level 1 (ages 7 to 9) and Level 2 (ages 10 to 12).
Beyond prizes for the winners, excitement filled the air as young voices echoed across the mosque grounds.
The festival also offered a plethora of engaging activities tailored for the young participants.
These ranged from colouring contests and creative Islamic attire showcases to thrilling bicycle races.
