KUCHING: Deputy Consul-General Zhang Yang from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching has many good words for Sarawak.
He said the state is unique in that its harmony exists not just within the community but also between its people and the environment.
He said this during a courtesy call made by him and Consul Jiang Ying to Tribune Press Sdn Bhd at Metrocity’s Commercial Precinct, Jalan Matang here yesterday.
“What impresses me about Sarawak is that there are 27 ethnic groups and different religions, and they all live harmoniously,” Jiang marvelled, highlighting all the different festivals celebrated in Sarawak.
Zhang said what he liked most about the state was its people. He said, “They are so friendly
and helpful.”
He mentioned that despite his occasional language barriers with the locals, he could see their eagerness to help in their eyes and smiles.
The deputy consul-general also admired the trust that exists among Sarawakians, giving the example that even buyers and sellers in the local market hold a level of trust between them.
On another note, Jiang also emphasised the great potential of Sarawak in the field of agriculture, such as in the stingless bee industry.
She mentioned that Yunnan Agricultural University had met with Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and proposed to collaborate with the state government to further
develop this industry.
