KUCHING: China has called on peoples of the world to work together in various fields to build a global community.
“Our ultimate aim should be to create a lasting peace, universal security and common prosperity,” declared Deputy Consul-General Zhang Yang from the Consulate General of the People’s Republic of China in Kuching.
Zhang said towards this end China adheres to the fundamental national open policy in all areas of development.
“In doing so, we hope to achieve infrastructure, trade, policy, financial and people-to-people connectivity. That way we hope to build a new platform for international cooperation to create new drivers of shared development,” he said in an article that he authored to introduce China’s foreign policy.
Zhang mentioned that the country would increase assistance to other developing countries, in particular the least developed, doing its part to reduce the North-South development gap.
“China will support multilateral trade regimes, facilitate the establishment of free trade areas, and build an open world economy,” he said.
According to the Deputy Consul-General, China stands for democracy in international relations and equality of all countries regardless of size, strength and affluence, in addition to shared growth via discussion and collaboration in engaging global governance.
“China supports the United Nations in playing an active role in international affairs, and it will continue to play its part as a major and responsible country,” he stated, expressing China’s readiness to work hand-in-hand with all other countries in forming a bright future ahead.
Zhang emphasised China’s firm stand in pursuing a foreign policy of peace, saying the rights of peoples of all countries to choose their own development path are respected.
He said China frowned upon the practice of the “strong bullying the weak”, reiterating that China promotes international fairness and justice.
“China will never pursue development at the expense of others’ interests, but neither will China ever give up its legitimate rights and interests,” he said.
He also added that the development of the nation as the second-largest economy in the world does not pose a threat to any other country, stating that it would never seek hegemony or engage in expansion no matter what stage of development it achieves.
“China has actively developed global partnerships, and it will deepen relations with its neighbours in accordance with the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, inclusiveness, and also friendship,” Zhang said.
