PARIS: China beat the United States (US) and hosts France with superstar Leon Marchand to claim gold in the final men’s race at the Paris Olympics, the 4×100-metre medley relay, the German press agency (dpa) reported.

Chinese anchor Pan Zhanle, the 100m freestyle gold winner and record holder, took the lead from France’s Florent Manadou and completed the race in 3 minutes 27.46 seconds.

France were leading at the final exchange, but had to settle for bronze after Hunter Armstrong also passed Manadou to help the US to silver.

Marchand got the bronze after four individual golds, in the 200m and 400m medley, 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly. – BERNAMA-ANADOLU
