KOTA SAMARAHAN: A Chinese Cultural Night was held at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) to foster a greater understanding of Chinese culture among students.

Organised by the university’s Chinese Cultural Association (CCA) it carried the theme ‘Retro Renaissance’ to connect them to the past and guide them into the future.

“Cultural heritage is crucial as it is what makes us unique,” said CCA president Yip Xiao Tong during the programme here on Friday (Dec 8).

“We are all agents and actors of culture with the power and responsibility to shape and influence our respective cultures in Malaysian society,” she said.

Yip said the programme showcased the rich and diverse cultural expressions of the Chinese community.

“From traditional to contemporary culture, from local to global, and from individual to group performance.

“I hope this cultural night programme will not only entertain and enlighten the audience but also serve as motivation for all of us to learn and love our own culture, thus introducing it further to the people,” she added.
