KUCHING: The Persatuan Kebajikan Tiong Hua Islam Sarawak (Sarawak Perkhitis) here plans to erect its own building in the future.
Its newly-elected president Mothada Lau said a piece of land had already been identified for this purpose and construction was expected to take off upon approval from the relevant authorities.
Speaking before Perkhitis held its inaugural annual general meeting here recently, he said the association was set up in view of the growing Chinese Muslim population in Sarawak.
“Perkhitis was set up to cater to the growing Chinese Muslim community state-wide and to further enhance the quality of the Chinese Muslims in the state,” he added.
In order for this intention to be realised, Perkhitis wanted to erect its own building in the not too distance future, he disclosed.
He said the proposed building would facilitate the association in organising its various activities like classrooms for religious studies, prayer halls, an events hall and a hostel for religious teachers and outstation members.
It would also enable us to bring in qualified Ustaz and Ustazahs to assist in all matters faced by members and non-members alike, he added.
Meanwhile, the meeting discussed a few proposals which included a central management committee to cater to the needs of Perkhitis members throughout the state.
Earlier, the meeting saw Jamaluddin James Hiew Tze Chang being elected as deputy president and Abdul Hamid Sallehuddin Ling as vice-president.
Mohd Hafeez Chiew was elected as chairman of Perkhitis Kuching branch and assisted by Mohd Soufian Lau as vice-chairman.
