KUALA LUMPUR: Twenty-three Chinese nationals including a woman, were charged at the Ampang Magistrate’s Court here today, with gambling online in a public place.
Of the total, 19 pleaded not guilty after the charge was read out separately to them in Mandarin before Magistrate Mohamad Firdaus Sadina Ali.
Four did not enter their plea as there was no Mandarin interpreter.
They allegedly committed the offence at a premises in Taman Melawati, here, on Jan 22 at 1.35pm.
The charge framed under Section 6 (1) of the common Gaming Houses Act 1953 provides for a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both, upon conviction.
The accused aged between 17 and 46 were denied bail.
The court fixed March 13 for mention. – Bernama
