JOHOR BAHRU: Two Chinese nationals who took their toddler, suspected to have been infected with the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) out of a public hospital here to avoid quarantine, were detained at the Senai International Airport, near Kulai last night.

Johor police chief Datuk Kamarudin Md Din said they were detained at about 9.20 pm, while they were about to board a flight to China.

He said the trio was later referred to the hospital for further examination.

“Further information regarding them will be given by the Johor State Health Department,” he said when contacted today.

Yesterday, a copy of the police report filed by a doctor from a public hospital here about the Chinese nationals who dodged quarantine on their two-year-old child went viral on social media.

Based on the police report, the toddler who had influenza-like symptoms which were fever and cough, was advised to be put under quarantine at the hospital.

Johor Bahru Selatan Deputy police chief Supt Mohd Afzanizam Yahaya when contacted confirmed receiving the report at 4.20 pm yesterday.

So far, four confirmed cases of 2019-nCoV have been detected in the country. – Bernama
