KUCHING: Today is Easter Sunday. On what may be the most important date on the Christian calendar, its celebration this year differs greatly from past celebrations.
Following the implementation of the movement control order (MCO), worshippers are expected to join in the Easter Vigil Mass as well as the Easter Sunday Mass in the comfort of their own home.
In similar ways throughout the holy week, churches throughout Sarawak are continuing to provide livestreams of worship services for those watching at home.
Whether they are watching it on their phones, computers, or televisions, no viewers are to be left out in worshipping during these challenging times.
Bishop of Kuching the Rt Rev Datuk Danald Jute said while Christians might not be able to gather together in churches and chapels, God is walking these MCO days with the believers.
“We can continue to worship by ourselves and by following our online worship services.
“As we face challenging times and uncertain days, with limits on socialisation, movement, commerce and business, when our homes have become our prison, when being caring means keeping a distance from our loved ones — let us remember that God has seen it all before.
“In our current time of global pandemic crisis, it is indeed right to call on God’s help. However, we must remember that God wants us to have a right relationship with Him all of the time and not just calling for Him in a crisis, then forget about Him in the days of self-sufficiency,” he reminded the Christians.
He also expressed his hopes for Christians to spend their time reading the Bible and in praying.
“You will surely find that the Bible is more relevant than you think. Do spend some time in prayer. And when you do, you will realise how powerful prayer can be.
“As and when we can, please offer help to the poor and needy, for when you do, you will find yourselves becoming a more grateful person,” he said.
