BINTULU: Murum assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon handed out an initial aid of RM24,900 to the victims of the Uma Bakah Resettlement Scheme fire, Sungai Asap in Belaga.
According to Chukpai, the assistance is an initial effort to help ease the burden of the fire victims among whom are 19 primary school students, 12 secondary school students and three students of Institutes of Higher Education (IPT).
Earlier, he held a meeting with the District Disaster Management Committee to coordinate assistance and follow-up actions after the tragedy in an effort to help and ease the burden of the affected victims.
In the meantime, Chukpai expressed his gratitude and appreciation to all parties, especially the local community from around Sungai Asap-Koyan for their contribution in helping the fire victims.
“We are very grateful for the cooperation of the youth and residents of Apau Koyan together with the Uma Daro Volunteer Fire Team who came to help and successfully put out the fire in Block F from spreading to other blocks of the Uma Bakah longhouse (Uma Baha), he said.
Deputy Minister and Telecommunications I cum Belaga Assemblyman, Datuk Liwan Lagang did not miss out on presenting a donation of RM8,000, specifically RM500 each to the victims of the fire (16 doors) in Block F.
In the incident at about 2pm last Thursday, a block comprising 15 doors was destroyed by fire while one residential door in Block E was partially damaged.
