KUCHING: The Kuching Chung Hua Primary School No. 1-6 Board of Management has made a donation of RM96,741 to the Anti-Pandemic Support Fund.
The fund was initiated by the Federation of Kuching, Samarahan and Serian Divisions Chinese Association Sarawak (Huazong) to help the less fortunate.
“The donations were collected from 5,122 people from six Kuching Chung Hua primary schools and the school board.
“I’m pleased with the amount as it shows that young children are aware of supporting worthy causes and extending help when needed,” said Rodger Chan, the Anti-Pandemic Support Fund deputy chairman, during the handing over of the donation at the Huazong office in Pending here on Monday (July 26).
Chan, who is also the secretary-general of the board, said that the donors included primary school students, parents, teachers and board members.
“This is particularly significant — a number of donors are Bumiputera. This shows that Sarawakians come together irrespective of their race, age and background when it comes to fighting the pandemic, fostering and inculcating the spirit of togetherness in times of need.”
He thanked the donors for contributing to a good cause, and also commended Huazong president Datuk Richard Wee for initiating the fundraiser.
The cheque for the amount was handed over by board chairman Jonathan Chai to the fund chairman Kuek Eng Mong.
