KUCHING: The ruling by the High Court allowing the use of the word ‘Allah’ by non-Muslims in Malaysia must not be interpreted as a victory by any one person or groups of persons over another, said Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei, Right Reverend Datuk Danald Jute.

“This decision is a victory for common sense, which must be accepted and respected by all peace-loving and sensible Malaysians of all backgrounds,” he said.

“We applaud and welcome the High Court’s decision which has ruled that the word ‘Allah’ is allowed to be used by non-Muslims all over Malaysia,” he added.

He was commenting on Justice Datuk Nor Bee Ariffin’s ruling on Wednesday.

Justice Nor said the Home Ministry’s directive to prohibit the use of the word ‘Allah’, in addition to three other words ‘Baitullah’, ‘Kaabah’, and ‘solat’, was illegal and irrational. She added that the use of these words would not disrupt public order.
