KUCHING: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Sarawak and several NGOs have warmly thanked the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) for their substantial contribution of RM 177,000 in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training kits and automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
MRCS Kuching Branch deputy chairman Dr. Chou Chii Ming said that 15 AEDs and 10 CPR training kits were distributed across MRCS branches and selected NGOs in Sarawak.
“These donations will be instrumental in promoting the vital practices of AED use and CPR training across the state,” he said during the ceremony at MRCS Kuching Branch office, Jalan Reservoir here yesterday.
Recipients including the Kuching, Lundu, Serian, Sri Aman, Sibu, Sarikei, and Limbang MRCS branches, along with specific NGOs such as AMAL Kuching Charity Ambulance Service and the Sarawak Society for the Deaf, among others.
The event also featured a demonstration on the effective use of the AEDs during emergency situations.
With cardiac arrest as Malaysia’s leading cause of death, according to 2021 data from the Statistics Department, these efforts by MRCS are timely. The organisation is dedicated to teaching life-saving skills such as AED usage, CPR, and basic first aid through various training programmes and workshops.
This initiative aligns with the training programme by the Human Resource Development Fund (HRDF), which supports the claim of the course.
For more details on these life-saving courses, the MRCS encourages the public to contact them at 082-247935 during office hours.
Also present were MRCS Kuching vice chairman John Jong, committee member Joseph Teo, and LDS Church representatives Elder Sandy Hall and Sister Ardella Hall.
