SERIAN: In connection with this year’s Lent season, St Theresa’s Church here will hold many activities to mark the season.
Rector of the parish Rev Fr Paul Herry is inviting parishioners and church members to join in the lent activities for self renewal. The Lent season started on Ash Wednesday (March 9) with mass at 6.30pm.
The Stations of the Cross began on March 8 at 6pm and will be held on every Friday until the last Stations of the Cross on April12.
Parishioners are reminded that the Fridays during the Lent season are the days of abstinence from meat.
A pilgrimage to Bung Mako on March 16 will also feature a Holy Mass at 11am with members of Zone Kedup B. Catechist Damien Nyalut and Alban Bancheng will be leading the pilgrimage team to Bung Mako.
For the information of those interested, the pilgrimage team will leave from the foot of Bung Mako at 7.30am on the day.
Registration for the 42km Pilgrimage Walk will be held at St Mark’s Church Kampung Triboh, Jalan Gedong here from 6pm to 7pm on March 22.
The 42km route will commence at 9pm from the church. Participants are expected to arrive at St John’s Church, Kampong Melajok, Simunjan at 7.30am on March 23 where a Holy Mass will be celebrated at St John’s Church at 10am.
On March 29, members of Bung Sadong with Catechist David Gali (co-ordinator) and Adrian Laik (team leader) will lead another pilgrimage team to Bung Mako. The times will be the same as on March 16.
On April 14, Palm Sunday Mass will be held at 8.30am while Holy Thursday Mass will be held on April 18 at 8pm to be followed by Awake Programme until the next morning.
On April 10, Good Friday Mass will be held at 3pm, Easter Vigil (Holy Saturday) Mass will be held at 8pm on April 20 while Easter Sunday Mass will be held on April 21 at 8.30am with the Migrants Choir in attendance.
Fr Paul also disclosed that a Fundraising Climbathon to Bung Mako/ Kampung Rasau will be organised on Aug 31 and hoped that as many Catholics from far and near will participate in the good cause.
Bung Mako was discovered by the Rector of Serian Parish, Father Paul Herry who celebrated the first pilgrimage Holy Mass there on Aug 31, 2015. Thereafter, many masses had been celebrated at the site. Improvements to the footpath and church had been undertaken with assistance and donations from parishioners.
