Churches thank Unifor for grants

KAPIT: Methodist Iban Church and St Mary Immaculate Conception Church (Roman Catholic) here thanked the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) for allocating financial grants to the respective churches for renovation and maintenance purposes.

Methodist Iban Church Kapit received a grant amounting to RM250,000 whereas St Mary Immaculate Conception Church received RM80,000.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat presented the grants on behalf of Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs and Kapit MP Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi at Meligai Hotel here recently.

Receiving the grant on behalf of St Mary Immaculate Conception Church was Reverend Father Philip Obaso while Pastor Jenny Wendy received it on behalf of Methodist Iban Church Kapit.

Father Philip Obaso thanked the Sarawak government led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari for allocating the fund for other religions.

He said the St Mary Immaculate Conception Church would utilise the fund to repair part of its dilapidated building.

Meanwhile the Methodist Iban Church will use the grant to build a new church along Jalan Mamora here to cope with the ever growing number of followers.
