KUCHING: The Customs Department office here seized 760,000 sticks of cigarette valued at RM38,000 and duties amounting to RM505,400 at Kiong Ping Jetty here on Monday.
During a patrol at the jetty area at 5.15pm on Monday, the department’s enforcement team found suspicious boxes covered with canvas.
Further examination revealed that the boxes contained cartons of cigarettes wrapped with black plastic sheets.
The boxes were later taken to Sibu Customs Department office for further investigation.
No arrest has been made and further investigation will be made to identify the owner of the boxes, according to a statement from the department today.
