KUCHING: The bountiful food choices, the uniqueness of a multiracial community and the friendliness of the local people have left fond memories for the participants at the International Dragon Boat Regatta.
Despite the heavy downpour, happy and smiley faces were seen on all the participants who have tirelessly competed with passionate hearts for the past three days since the Regatta’s commencement last Friday.
On its final day, New Sarawak Tribune interviewed Julie from Guangzhou Dragons, China who had commended the Regatta’s organisers, technical crews and referees for a brilliant job done.
On her first visit here and in Malaysia, she described the three days as ‘very amazing’.
Julie enthused that the people of Kuching are ‘very friendly’ and the city has ‘very good’ food.
“I tried some of the local food at the market, I like Sarawak laksa and I would definitely come back again,” she said.
Another participant, Joyce Calderon, 40, from Onslaught Racing Dragons Qatar said the three-day race was really great and she thanked the organisers and the entire team for their efforts.
Joyce, who was with her husband Lester, also highlighted that the Sarawak laksa which they had for dinner was amazing.
“It was all good, the experience was good and we would definitely come back as it is my first time in Sarawak,” she said.
Two participants from Taiwan, Patty Wu, 37, and Green Chen, 35, represented their boat team, ‘Taiwan Storm Dragon Boat Team’ which has given superb food praises towards local Malaysian dishes.
According to Wu, she said the three-day experience has been awesome and beautiful.
“The people are very nice and kind, the highlight for me was the food, it was good. I like char kuey teow, satay and the Sarawak laksa was good too.
“I would definitely come back for a holiday and maybe the dragon boat race in the future,” she said.
Meanwhile, Chen added that her valuable experience has been incredible and that she enjoyed coconut juice and iced milo.
