KUCHING: Sarawak needs more four-wheel-drive vehicles to deliver commodities to remote areas, said Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong.
The Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah, Sarawak Affairs, and Special Tasks) hoped that the request for the vehicles would be approved to allow the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) Sarawak to do its tasks.
“So far, we have applied for 30 vehicles to help rural disaster victims such as those impacted by floods.
“Assets like these are critical for travelling to remote places such as Long Busang and Baram,” he said at a press conference after visiting Sarawak APM Office at Sultan Iskandar Building yesterday.
In other developments, a dedicated training facility for the force has been established. The hall in the building can be used to teach members broader skills to handle catastrophes and floods.
According to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (METS Malaysia), catastrophes and floods are forecasted to happen in Sarawak between January and March next year.
