KUCHING: Salbiah Haji Majidi, from STIDC Toastmasters Club, is among the civil servants in the state who have received the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) Award, the highest that Toastmasters International bestows.
Salbiah, who won the DTM award in June, 2016, officially received it from Ivy Lau, now Toastmasters International District 87 Director 2016-2017, during the District 87 semi annual convention in Brunei Darussalam in October, 2016. It was presented to her during the gala night.
Salbiah is a former Secretary, former Vice President Public Relations, former Vice President Education and former President of STIDC Toastmasters Club as well as former Area Governor.
She was also presented the DTM pin by STIDC General Manager, Datu Haji Sarudu Haji Hoklai, during the STIDC Toastmasters Club’s monthly assembly at the STIDC theatrette in June, 2016.
At the assembly, the participants were told that the DTM award was the greatest honour that could be earned by a member of Toastmasters International.’
Said the emcee: “The DTM award is given only to those who have demonstrated outstanding leadership and communication skills and who have used these skills to help others in their self-development pursuits.
“Attaining this award is not an easy task. It is a long journey. A member has to complete 40 speeches and served several leadership roles to fulfil the leadership and communication requirements to qualify for the DTM status.
“This member of ours did this in six years. She was the first STIDC Toastmaster of The Year Award recipient in 2011. She has assisted our club, district, and the community while serving as the club exco, Area Governor and actively involved in a number of youth leadership programmes jointly organised by the clubs in the division.
“Apart from that, Salbiah also participated in various speech contests of which she dreams of becoming at least a district champion in the future. These accomplishments have given her a greater perspective of the value of being a good communicator and effective leader. She was also a
Triple Crown Award recipient for achieving three educational goals within a year.”
