MUKAH: The government will review the public service salary scheme across the country and the discussions on it will be brought to the Cabinet meeting next week.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the decision was made because no salary increment had been given for quite some time and the last time the salary scheme was reviewed was in 2013.

Suara Sarawak/New Sarawak Tribune has interviewed several civil servants regarding this matter.

Of course, it is appropriate for the government to review the public service salary scheme throughout the country.

This is because the salary scheme used today is less comprehensive and is at a low level compared to the increasing cost of living.

I hope that all public services in our country get a reasonable salary increase and that it is implemented as soon as possible to ease the burden of responsibilities and commitments, especially those with low salaries.

I agree with the move to review the public service salary scheme and the government should also raise the salary.

This is because, there are still many people with less able status or B40 and, of course, they are affected by the current situation.

With the wage raise implemented, the burden borne by the B40 group will be reduced if the cost of living also does not increase.

Reviewing salaries of civil servants is very appropriate given that inflation is rising from time to time.

If the salaries of civil servants are increased, of course spending will increase thus stimulating our country’s economy.

Therefore, I hope that the salaries of civil servants will be increased in accordance with the rising cost of living in our country at present.

“This is a good move for civil servants since the basic salary of every civil servant is according to grade.

So, the revision of the public service salary scheme helps them to remain committed in doing their respective duties especially when the salary is raised.

However, it must be based on each individual’s commitment according to the field of work carried out as well as the qualifications of each civil servant.
