KUCHING: The cooperation and commitment of Sarawak civil servants are very important in making efforts to achieve a high-income, developed state in line with the goals of the Post-Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the commitment of civil servants will lead to economic progress while guaranteeing the well-being of the people and the sovereignty of Sarawak.
“It is our collective responsibility to translate all economic and financial concepts into policies that can benefit the people of Sarawak as a whole.
“It is pointless for the state to achieve the status of high income, developed state if its people remain impoverished.
“Therefore, it is very important for us to formulate an economic development strategy that leads to a fair and equitable distribution of wealth to be enjoyed by all the people of Sarawak and all walks of life.”
He said this at the closing ceremony of a Team Building programme of the Sarawak Financial Secretary’s Office here on Sunday (Feb 26).
Abang Johari said to achieve the goal, civil servants need to be ready to accept and spark new ideas, be proactive, apply innovation, and always keep abreast of the latest technological skills.
Earlier, he said the Sarawak government has been implementing various initiatives such as revenue reengineering to increase Sarawak’s revenue, review irrelevant circulars, and expand online services.
“We are also working to formulate a budget policy and public debt management strategy to ensure a more comprehensive public sector financial management.
“Therefore, the State Financial Secretary’s Office plays an important role in ensuring that these initiatives can be implemented successfully,” he added.
Also present were Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Acting State Secretary Datuk Dr. Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel, State Financial Secretary Datuk Seri Dr. Wan Lizozman Wan Omar and senior government officers.
