KUCHING: Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki has called on civil servants to actively contribute fresh ideas to expedite development and propel Sarawak towards achieving high-income status by 2030.

Abu Bakar, who is the Sarawak government secretary, pointed out that Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg consistently introduces novel concepts, urging civil servants to work hand in hand with state leaders to ensure effective execution of the government’s vision and strategies.

“Every time we listen to his speeches, he comes up with various new ideas. So, we as civil servants cannot be left behind.

“For example, as a department head, you should always think of new ideas and how we can pursue his mission.

“When he talks about new things such as algae, carbon, Sovereign Wealth Funds and so on, we should make sure to keep up with him.

“We cannot be left behind in terms of the contribution of ideas, especially for the development of the state and the benefit of the people in general,” Abu Bakar said.

Addressing a gathering during the Innovation and Integrity Day of the Land and Survey Department (HIITS) here, he also underscored the significance of translating policies, visions, and directives from state leaders into impactful outcomes.

He urged civil servants to effectively communicate these ideas to the public in alignment with the state’s future aspirations.

“At the same time, we must work together as a team not only within the department, but also with state and community leaders.

“This is important so that all government approaches can be delivered well,” he stressed.

During the event, Sarawak Land and Survey Department director Datuk Abdullah Julaihi shared his commitment to consistently generate innovative ideas aimed at enhancing service quality.

“Innovation, integrity and teamwork are inseparable, so this is the foundation that we are building in this organisation towards a developed and prosperous Sarawak.

“Because of that belief, we participated in the Integrity, Government and Anti-Corruption Awards this year organised by the Malaysian Integrity Institute.

“The online evaluation was carried out on June 12, while the evaluation by the panel with other agencies will continue until next September.

“This participation is used as a platform to get a professional view on the level of integrity of the department which will benefit Sarawak’s public service.”

He added that the main focus of this year’s celebration is to prepare the Innovation and Creative Group team to go through screening at the ministry level and then qualify to the final stage of the Sarawak Public Service Innovation Convention Award (SCSICA).

Abdullah also congratulated Sassoku Tech Group (JTS Kuching) and V-Tech Group 12 (Serian) who will represent Malaysia and Sarawak at the International Convention Quality Control Circles in Beijing, China.

In addition, he said, the department is actively implementing various corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities, including through the Landas Summit programme in Bau by handing over a total of RM25,800 in donations to 43 recipients in the Sarawak River areas (Kampung Segedup, Maong, Sandong, Paruh, Rantau Panjang and Sejijak), to ease the burden of those affected by the activity of issuing Sandstone Material Transfer Licences.
