SIBU: Every nation and every culture has its own vitality and unique charm.
Stating this, chairman of Sarawak Central Chiang Hsia Huang Clan Association (SCCHHCA) Wong Ing Huong said for 63 years, the association has been adhering to the fine traditions of respecting the elderly, uniting, helping each other, and passing on inheritance, providing a platform for compatriots surnamed Huang to communicate with each other and grow together.
“The reason why the clan members have gone through many vicissitudes of life, and the reason why they have a strong ‘human touch’ is that following the virtues of respecting, and loving the elderly is a very important part.
“As such, we commemorate our ancestors, inherit and carry forward Chinese culture, and care about the development of society and the prosperity of the nation,” he said at the SCCHHCA’s veneration of elderly event held over a luncheon reception Sunday (Sept 17).
The event, which is also one of the series of activities for the association’s 63rd anniversary celebration recorded a total of 356 elderly members aged 70 above being presented with gifts.
“Elders, who contribute to society and their families, are the treasure house of knowledge and the key to wisdom. They not only raised us, but also spread the principles of life to us through words and deeds,” he said.
Also in attendance was Bawang Assan assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh awho is also SCCHHCA’s honorary adviser.
Currently, the association has about 5,000 members.
