HOUSTON: The Ministry of Energy and Environmental Sustainability engaged in pivotal discussions with Schlumberger (SLB) on the sidelines of CERAWeek in Houston, Texas.
Deputy Minister Datuk Dr. Hazland Abang Hipni outlined the focus of the high-level talks on exploring potential collaborations in Carbon Capture, Utilisation, and Storage (CCUS) and competency training, which aligns with Sarawak’s initiatives for clean energy.
“The discussions revolved around technical service support for CCUS, a key component in implementing Sarawak’s CCUS roadmap, and partnership opportunities with NeXT SLB for upskilling and competency development programmes,” he said, addressing the critical need to prepare Sarawak’s workforce for the net-zero emissions transition.
Moreover, the dialogue included the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Clean Energy in Sarawak. This initiative is anticipated to lay the groundwork for the Post-COVID Development Strategy 2030, particularly under its Renewable Energy enabler agenda.
“With Sarawak’s progress in clean energy, it is crucial that we develop local talent to lead our journey toward a sustainable future,” he added.
Additionally, he attended a private reception at the AGORA House during CERAWeek, hosted by SLB. There, he exchanged insights with SLB’s CEO Olivier Le Peuch and Amy Chua, President for the Asia Region, further solidifying their shared commitment to energy sustainability and innovation.
