BINTULU: Environmental preservation will be a priority of the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA) in line with the growth of heavy industries in the Tanjung Kidurong and Samalaju areas currently.
BDA deputy chairman, Datuk Haidar Khan Asghar Khan stated that this aligns with the new vision of the local authority (PBT) to become a hub for low-carbon industries by 2030.
He further said that a strategic development plan for Bintulu has been formulated and is being implemented to realise this goal.
“Rest assured that our environment will be safer and cleaner in the future,” he said when speaking at the opening of the 16th edition of the 2023 Bintulu International Kite Festival (BIKF) held at the Old Bintulu Airport site here today.
Haidar added that Bintulu is poised to witness a second wave of development due to various government projects and development plans in addition to private sector initiatives, especially in the Samalaju Industrial Area.
Furthermore, he noted that rapid development will also take place across the Kemena River when the iconic Bintulu-Jepak Bridge, worth RM467 million, is completed next year, further boosting Bintulu’s economy.
“This bridge will be a new landmark for Bintulu and, more importantly, it will provide a route for Bintulu to expand across the river, that is to the Jepak area,” he said.
Also present at the event were Tanjong Batu assemblyman, Johnny Pang; Bintulu deputy Resident Abang Zainudin Abang Turkey; and BDA chief executive officer, Datuk Muhammad Yakup Kari.
A total of 185 professionals from 40 countries are taking part in this year’s edition being held from Sept 27 to Oct 1.
