MATU: The people in the Igan Parliamentary Constituency will receive clean water supply in the very near future. Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg has approved RM200 millions to upgrade the existing treatment plants or water related facilities in the constituency.

He gave the approval while speaking at the Closing Ceremony of the Matu Fiesta 2018 which was held at Matu Bazaar yesterday. Abang Jo wanted the project to be implemented within two years in view of the current unstable water supply in Matu and Daro Districts.

He said reliable supplies of clean water would be provided to the whole Sarawak through the state water grid. The state water grid, he added, would solve the never ending water woes once and for all.

Referring to the late Catherine Janet Tiwi, 25, who was killed after the teachers’ quarters she stayed in at SK Batu Bungan Miri was destroyed by fire on July 25, Abang Jo said he did not want to see another unfortunate and touching incident. He pointed that the state was willing to offer a RM1 billion loan to the federal government to rebuild dilapidated schools in Sarawak.
