KUCHING: Five tonnes of waste were collected during a cleanup operation at the Maong Tengah Hawker Centre here yesterday.

The programme was organised by the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and the World Mission Society Church of God Young Adult Worker (ASEZWAO) Kuching Branch.

DBKU Mayor Hilmy Othman said that the cleanup saw the participation of 40 volunteers, including five from South Korea.

“This initiative not only promotes cleanliness but also strengthens our waste management efforts, crucial for environmental health,” he told reporters.

The cleanup targeted the vicinity of the hawker centre, resulting in the removal of various waste items, including mattresses and cigarette butts.
