SIBU: Taman Rejang Community Clinic (formerly 1 Malaysia Clinic) is more appealing now after it has been renovated without any cost to the government as the works involved the local community’s participation and sponsorship.
The renovation works included a mural painting, sealing of side windows and repainting of the interior walls.
Sibu MP, Oscar Ling, in his speech after he launched the mural painting today, said the participation of the local community in Rejang Park and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) had made the renovation possible.
Some 20 pupils of SRK Taman Rajang had also volunteered in the project.
The mural painting was done by a local artist, Lau Ai Ling, while Tang Sing Ming, a painter, gave the clinic a new coat of paint.
“The paints were sponsored by a paint dealer and 20 people were involved in the renovation works which took them three days to complete,” Ling said.
He added that they had to seal the side windows to prevent heat from coming into the clinic.
Commenting on the new coat of paint, Ling pointed out that the clinic is now much “brighter”.
“This clinic is the busiest among such clinics in the state as it receives an average of 100 patients a day and is manned by seven medical staff,” he said.
On a separate development, Ling said B40 households who are eligible for PeKa B40 can now do health follow-up at private clinics.
PeKa B40 is a healthcare protection scheme for the low income B40 group which was implemented on April 15.
The scheme involves an allocation of RM100 million which will benefit 800,000 recipients of the Bantuan Sara Hidup (BSH) aged 50 and above.
Ling said people under the group can log into www.pekab40.com.my to check whether they are eligible for the scheme.
Meanwhile, Sibu Health Department officer, Dr Teh Jo Hin, advised patients to keep to the appointment schedule at the Oya Road Polyclinic.
“We really hope the public will follow the appointment system so that congestion at the Oya Road Polyclinic will not occur,” he said.
Teh added that the department is in the midst of renting two shophouses near the polyclinic to reduce congestion.
