KUCHING: The Sarawak Police Contingent Headquarters is in the country’s top three in terms of arrests and operations related to drugs.
Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this success was achieved as a result of various awareness, prevention and integrated intervention programmes conducted frequently statewide.
“This is one of the positive impacts of the close involvement with Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) led by ACP Jasmirol Jamaluddin.”
She was speaking after receiving a courtesy call from ACP Jasmirol here on Tuesday.
Fatimah, who is also the One Stop Committee (OCS) to Address Drug and Substance Issues (MIDS) chairperson, said another positive impact was that more members of the public were coming forward and providing vital information related to drug activities.
“At the same time, community leaders are working together to formulate strategies and prepare action plans. In addition, there is more response and positive feedback on the efforts carried out by OSC MIDS.”
Meanwhile, ACP Jasmirol, who has been the Sarawak NCID head since June 5, 2020, will be transferred to head the Kuala Lumpur NCID.
“I hope that all efforts and cooperation can be continued with the new Sarawak NCID head, as well as further enhanced to achieve more success in combating drug and illicit substance abuse activities in the state,” he said.
ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah is taking over ACP Jasmirol’s place. Previously, he was the Pulau Pinang NCID head from June 8, 2020 to April 11, 2022.
“I am determined to continue the efforts to combat drug-related issues in the state. Despite working outside Sarawak, I still follow the development of drug-related issues in the state.
“Therefore, as a Sarawakian, I will continue this commitment. With the support from the minister, we will continue to work closely with the relevant agencies as well as the public to combat drug activities.”
