MUKAH: Extreme attitudes in religion and race must be avoided in order to achieve close cooperation among each other.

Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said this attitude will also be the reason for the people to be split.

“Due to that extreme attitude, we will lose, not others.

“Therefore, cooperation without choosing background such as religion and race must be practised by all the people in Sarawak,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the Mantar Gawai Dayak 2024 Mukah Branch event organised by the Sarawak Dayak National Union (SDNU) Mukah Branch, here, yesterday.

In that regard, he said, with close cooperation among each other, it is certainly easy to achieve progress.

He said this included progress in terms of development to be enjoyed together in Sarawak.

“As Sarawakians, we are lucky to celebrate festivals here such as Hari Gawai, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Hari Raya.

“We all celebrate together regardless of race and religion.

“This is the time for us to mingle and joke with each other and forget past disputes if any,” he explained.

In addition, Yakub also wished Happy Gawai to those celebrating the festival and advised them to go back to the village and celebrate the occasion with their parents.

At the function, he also presented a Minor Rural Project (MRP) grant to SDNU Mukah Branch and Serakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS) Mukah Branch to carry out their respective programmes.

Also present were Sarawak Deputy Secretary Datuk Hii Chang Kee, Resident of Mukah Division Kueh Lei Poh and chairman of SDNU Mukah Seraden Nyaring.
