MIRI: A driver had a brush with death when his four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle caught fire while he was driving along Jalan Senadin, Kuala Baram on Wednesday (Aug 19).
The driver noticed smoke billowing from under the bonnet and frantically attempted to stop the vehicle but he didn’t succeed probably because the brakes went out. The vehicle only came to a halt after it hit a road sign post.
A Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) statement said it despatched a team of firefighters from the Miri fire and rescue station after it received a distress call around 11.33pm.
But they could not do much as by the time they arrived at the scene the vehicle was engulfed by flames. The fire was put out at 12.05am.
